Llama 2 License 700 Million

Meta's LLaMa 2: A Powerful Language Model Now Available for Commercial Use

Free for Research, Commercial License Required for Large-Scale Applications

Open Source, Commercial License, and Licensee Affiliates

Meta has released LLaMa 2, the latest version of its open-source large language model (LLM). LLaMa 2 is free for research and commercial use, making it accessible to a wide range of organizations. However, organizations with products or services that have more than 700 million monthly active users will need to request a special license from Meta.

The permissive commercial license for LLaMa 2 allows organizations to use the model for a variety of applications, including customer service, content creation, and research. However, Meta's license agreement also includes restrictions for organizations with a large number of monthly active users.

Companies that are looking to use LLaMa 2 for applications that support more than 700 million monthly active users must request a separate license agreement with Meta. This license fee includes a requirement to establish a separate license agreement with Meta for any models that are trained on LLaMa 2.

Most users of LLaMa 2 likely don't have 700 million monthly users. However, major competitors of Meta such as Google, Amazon, and Apple, as well as large governments, may be subject to these restrictions.
